Questions About Our Walks?
Practical answers about the Castletown Cox parkland, Suir valley, wooded demesne and folly tower trails
Spring and autumn are ideal — you'll see bluebells in May, golden woodland colours in September and October. Summer works well too if you prefer longer daylight, though the trails can be busier. Winter walks are quieter and great for spotting the architecture through bare trees, but paths can be muddy.
The Suir valley and Castletown Cox parkland trails are specifically designed with older walkers in mind — gentle pacing, rest points built into the route, and accessible terrain. We keep distances manageable (typically 2–3 miles) and focus on paths with good surfaces. If you've been walking regularly, you'll find these comfortable and rewarding.
No experience needed — these are exploratory walks, not technical hikes. Wear comfortable walking shoes with decent grip (paths can be damp), bring a light layer even in summer, and a small water bottle. That's really it. We provide all the route knowledge and local history context.
You'll walk through estate parkland with the folly tower as your landmark destination, learn about the demesne's history and the people who built it, and discover architectural details like gates, walls, and landscape features that tell the story of the estate. It's as much about understanding the landscape as reaching the tower itself.
Most walks take 2–3 hours including stops for rest and learning. The Suir valley trail is typically the gentlest at around 2 hours, while the wooded demesne loop and folly tower routes run closer to 3 hours. We don't rush — the pace is set by the group, not the clock.
